Secol's Partnership with Royal Academy of Music

Secol was founded in 1959 and one of the first to recognize the tremendous archival properties of polyester film.

The Academy teaches a diverse and stimulating range of courses from traditional instrumental and vocal disciplines, as well as Historical Performance, Jazz, Composition and Musical Theatre. It also houses an internationally–significant museum of instruments, artefacts and manuscripts known as the York Gate Collections. Secol Ltd will be working with the Academy on an extensive project to help conserve a collection of historic letters and documents.

The McCann project involves a large collection of letters and musical quotations in the hand of important composers and performers; these are currently unlisted and in need of conservation and proper storage. The letters give an important insight into the history of musical performance in Europe, in particular Britain, during the 19th and 20th centuries.

This project will also conserve a number of important items from the Academy’s library collections, including letters by Beethoven, Brahms, Wagner and Clara Schumann, among others. Secol Ltd have supplied the Academy with proper archival storage material to protect this wonderful collection.
